Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commissioned six new transmission substations in various locations between January and April 2023. The construction of these substations in Al Jaddaf, Tilal Al Ghaf, Bani Yas, Jebel Ali Port, Marsa Dubai, and Al Yufrah 1 had a combined capacity of 900 MVA and cost AED 555M.
WAM installed approximately 3,450 meters of 132kV ground cable to connect these substations with the main transmission network.
The completion of these substations involved utilizing over 6 million safe working hours and incorporating advanced digital technologies to support DEWA’s digital transformation efforts.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized that the total cost of DEWA’s ongoing electricity transmission network projects surpasses AED 5B.
DEWA’s transmission lines boast a remarkable reliability and availability rate of nearly 100%.
Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s commitment to optimizing resources and ensuring the highest standards of security, safety, and quality throughout all project implementations.
Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, said, “We are working to provide advanced infrastructure, increase the capacity and efficiency of the power transmission network in the area, and meet the requirements of customers, developers, and the business sector. The total number of 132 kV transmission stations across Dubai reached 340 stations by the end of April 2023, in addition to 24 stations under construction.”
