Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has introduced a new smart solution for designing electricity distribution networks, aimed at strengthening the planning of 11kV networks while improving design efficiency and cutting both time and costs. The initiative enhances the reliability and sustainability of Dubai’s power distribution system and aligns with DEWA’s drive to advance innovation and digital applications across the energy sector. The solution is currently being rolled out within the Power and Water Planning Division.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA, said the development reflects the leadership’s vision to integrate advanced technologies across vital sectors to raise productivity and service efficiency. He noted that embedding digital innovation at the core of planning and operations enables multiple data sources to be transformed into practical decision-making tools, improving overall performance. The use of advanced software in electricity network design shortens planning timelines, reduces costs and enhances accuracy and flexibility, strengthening grid readiness to support rapid urban and economic expansion. These efforts align with DEWA’s ambition to deliver smart, sustainable infrastructure that supports Dubai’s long-term goals in innovation, sustainability and operational excellence.
The smart solution is powered by advanced software that generates two dedicated databases linked to network design tools, allowing end users to plan 11kV networks more effectively. The system gathers data from various sources, including peak load sheets, the SAP platform and master single-line diagrams, before analysing and consolidating the information into a single, structured format to support clear and accurate designs.
Since its implementation, the solution has produced measurable benefits, including lower planning and design costs, faster processing times and more efficient network layouts. These improvements have raised the quality of engineering outputs while supporting uninterrupted service delivery in line with the highest operational standards.
Abdulla Al Aghbari, Acting Executive Vice President of Power and Water Planning at DEWA, said the software offers planning teams a powerful platform by integrating data from multiple sources into one system. He added that it accelerates design workflows, improves accuracy and supports more informed planning decisions, while reinforcing efforts to enhance grid resilience and meet Dubai’s future growth needs.
The milestone highlights DEWA’s continued investment in organisational innovation and the development of employee-led digital solutions, strengthening its leadership in the energy sector and supporting the creation of a smart, reliable and sustainable electricity distribution network aligned with Dubai’s long-term vision.
