Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum began his first official visit to India on Tuesday, marking a new chapter in the steadily growing India-UAE relationship. This two-day visit, taking place from April 8 to 9, is seen as a key diplomatic milestone in a partnership that has flourished since formal ties were established in 1972.
Strengthening Diplomatic Ties with a Historic Visit
Upon arrival at Palam Airport in New Delhi, the Crown Prince was received by Union Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum, Suresh Gopi, and honored with a ceremonial guard of honour. The warm reception signaled the significance both nations attach to this high-level engagement.
Commenting on the visit, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on X, “Dubai to Delhi! A significant milestone in India-UAE relations.” He also welcomed the Crown Prince, describing the visit as a powerful symbol of the evolving and robust partnership between the two nations.
The Crown Prince is visiting India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to host a working lunch in New Delhi later today. During this engagement, the two leaders will hold discussions focused on advancing cooperation across key sectors, as highlighted in the MEA’s official statement.
Bilateral Talks and Economic Focus Mark Crown Prince’s Agenda
Earlier in the day, the Crown Prince also met with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar, who shared his appreciation on X, stating he valued the “positive sentiment” of the Crown Prince and emphasized the wide-ranging cooperation and vibrant ties between the UAE and India.
Following his diplomatic engagements in the capital, the Crown Prince will travel to Mumbai, where he is scheduled to participate in a high-level business roundtable. This event will bring together top industry leaders from both nations to discuss strategic investments and collaborations. Key areas of focus will include infrastructure, energy, fintech, innovation, and sustainability—sectors where India and the UAE are increasingly aligned.
With this visit, the Crown Prince aims to reinforce economic, cultural, and diplomatic ties, while setting the stage for new partnerships that reflect shared ambitions for regional and global development.
