China-Europe freight train services saw robust growth in both network coverage and freight volume during the first quarter of 2024, according to data released by China’s railway operator.
China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway) reported that in the initial three months of the year, China-Europe freight trains completed a total of 4,541 journeys, transporting around 493,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of goods. This represents a respective increase of 9 percent and 10 percent compared to the previous year, according to WAM.
China Central Television highlighted several factors contributing to this growth. Firstly, there has been an expansion of the China-Europe freight train network. Secondly, there have been improvements in transport efficiency and capacity at ports. Lastly, the overall quality of transportation services has been enhanced over time.
