Abu Dhabi Airports has appointed US aerospace firm BETA Technologies to introduce its certified Charge Cube and Battery Thermal Management System as part of the emirate’s development of an advanced air mobility (AAM) ecosystem.
Earlier this year, Abu Dhabi Airports received the mandate to oversee infrastructure, operations, and commercial readiness for a nationwide vertiport network. It has chosen BETA’s electric chargers and thermal management systems for its initial two locations — Al Bateen Executive Airport and Zayed International Airport, where the UAE’s first air mobility routes will begin.
BETA will additionally offer on-site technical guidance for equipment deployment and installation, along with maintenance and training services.
The charging system is already operational at Al Bateen Executive Airport, with Zayed International Airport set to follow. As the first regional eVTOL services are anticipated to commence in 2026, Abu Dhabi Airports’ roadmap includes a gradual expansion to as many as 14 public vertiports positioned at strategic urban and transport hubs.
Chad Nichols, BETA’s Charge Operations Lead, said: “BETA is pleased to further expand the international rollout of our charging solutions. This investment in permanent ground infrastructure reflects the strength and momentum of the sector. Our solution remains the world’s only certified electric aviation charging and thermal management system, and we look forward to working with Abu Dhabi Airports to deploy it across the region in support of electric aviation.”
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “Our partnership with BETA will deliver the resilient infrastructure required to bring Abu Dhabi’s air taxi network to life — safe, sustainable, and ready for the future.”
Airport-to-city connectivity represents the foundational step in establishing a viable AAM network. BETA’s infrastructure will facilitate this integration, and its multimodal, interoperable design is expected to accelerate adoption of electric aircraft and ground transport. This initiative marks a significant milestone in advancing next-generation mobility in the UAE and further extends BETA’s charging network, which now spans more than 50 locations across the US and Canada.
