Aramex has introduced a squadron of electric motorcycles as part of its last-mile delivery service in the UAE, aligning with its objective of achieving a 98 percent electric vehicle (EV) fleet by 2030, in line with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). The company is also dedicated to diminishing greenhouse gas emissions in the final stages of logistics and has invested in eco-friendly logistics solutions, including drones, to meet these targets.
In pursuit of its environmentally conscious goals, Aramex extended its EV capabilities by incorporating electric vans into its last-mile delivery fleet in Jordan last year and is presently undergoing trials for EV integration in Saudi Arabia. Samer Marei, Aramex’s Vice President for the GCC, expressed pride in establishing a new benchmark for sustainable logistics transportation in the region with the introduction of e-bikes to the UAE last-mile delivery fleet. This initiative, combined with the earlier expansion of an all-electric vehicle fleet, represents a significant stride towards promoting green mile logistics in the region.
Marei emphasized the dual benefits of incorporating e-bikes into operations, citing the reduction of emissions and the enhancement of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and future readiness. He reaffirmed Aramex’s commitment to pioneering the future of logistics, highlighting the inclusion of e-bikes alongside the EV fleet as evidence of this dedication. Marei also stressed Aramex’s leadership in sustainability and innovation, positioning the combined fleet as a testament to their unwavering dedication to a better and more sustainable future in their operational markets. The announcement of this initiative coincides with COP28 in Dubai, and Marei expressed enthusiasm about scaling up efforts to embrace electric vehicles for a cleaner and greener tomorrow.
The selection of e-bikes followed rigorous testing of various models to ensure optimal performance and stability, particularly in local weather conditions, according to Arabian Business.
