Dubai Municipality has awarded contracts for the second phase of the Al Mamzar Beach Development Project, marking a significant step toward transforming the Al Mamzar Corniche into a world-class leisure destination. Estimated to cost Dh400 million, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Phase Two Highlights
The second phase spans 125,000 square metres, featuring an 80-metre-wide public beach with dedicated facilities for women. The women’s beach will prioritize privacy and safety, incorporating gated entrances, fencing, and night swimming options. Additional tailored amenities include a sports club, commercial outlets, and children’s play areas.
For the broader public, the development will feature:
- Running, walking, and cycling paths spanning 1,000 metres, connecting Al Mamzar Creek Beach and Al Mamzar Park.
- Seasonal event space of 5,000 square metres.
- Skateboarding area of 2,000 square metres.
- Green spaces, restrooms, and beach lounges for visitor comfort.
Smart and Inclusive Features
The corniche will be equipped with advanced smart services to enhance the visitor experience, including:
- AI-powered surveillance systems.
- Crowd management tools.
- Drowning rescue technologies.
- Smart luggage lockers.
Facilities will also cater to people of determination, with accessible toilets, changing rooms, showers, and a specially designed night swimming beach. An administrative building will house a control room and first aid centre to ensure safety and seamless operations.
Economic and Community Growth
The project aims to foster economic growth by introducing waterfront restaurants, food and beverage outlets, and recreational spaces. These developments align with Dubai Municipality’s vision of creating inclusive, sustainable, and aesthetically appealing public spaces.
Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, said, “We are redefining concepts and standards for the design and development of beaches to align with the future and position them as the most advanced and appealing globally. Our goal is to showcase Dubai’s uniqueness in implementing pioneering projects that combine advanced, sustainable infrastructure with modern, aesthetic designs.”
Phase One Progress
Commenced in June 2024, the first phase has achieved 45% completion. This phase spans 275,000 square metres and includes:
- A 200-metre pedestrian pontoon bridge for easier public access across the creek.
- A 300-metre night swimming beach accessible to people of determination.
- A 5-kilometre walkway with dedicated running and cycling tracks.
- Barbecue areas, jet ski marinas, three children’s play zones, and two recreational spaces.
