ADNOC Logistics and Services (ADNOC L&S), a key player in global energy maritime logistics, has partnered with US-based Regent to trial its electric seaglider, assessing its suitability for transporting personnel to and from offshore facilities.
The collaboration was announced at the ongoing ‘Make it in the Emirates’ event in Abu Dhabi.
Regent’s ‘Viceroy’ seaglider is an innovative craft that combines the speed of an aircraft with the accessibility of a boat, offering high-speed, zero-emission transport. The proof-of-concept trial marks the initial step in a potential phased rollout of the technology across ADNOC L&S’s offshore logistics operations.
As part of the partnership, Regent will manufacture its electric seagliders in the UAE and provide aftermarket services, including maintenance. This initiative will support local industrial capabilities and contribute to the strengthening of the UAE’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, Chief Executive of ADNOC L&S, reiterated the company’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies that enhance operational safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
“This proof-of-concept trial with Regent’s seagliders represents a major milestone in our decarbonisation efforts for offshore logistics, while promoting the objectives of ‘Make it in the Emirates’ by developing future-ready maritime solutions within the UAE,” he stated.
The Viceroy seaglider can carry up to 12 passengers or 1,600kg of cargo and reaches speeds of 300 km/h over a range of up to 300 kilometres. It offers multi-mode capability – floating, foiling, and flying – ensuring versatility and comfort in offshore operations.
Compared to helicopters, it delivers up to 80% lower operating costs and features advanced sensors and automation for safe, reliable performance.
