AD Ports Group, a prominent facilitator of global trade, logistics, and industry, has awarded Mar Construction Civil & Obras Publicas – LDA the contract for the design and construction of the topside and marine infrastructure at the Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal, located within Angola’s primary port.
The Port of Luanda, which handles approximately 76% of Angola’s containerised and general cargo, serves as a critical maritime gateway for landlocked nations including Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Following a 20-year concession agreement signed with the Luanda Port Authority in April 2024, AD Ports Group committed to a USD 250 million investment through to 2026 to upgrade the terminal.
Operational control of the multi-purpose terminal commenced on 30 January 2025, signifying a key milestone in the Group’s expansion into sub-Saharan Africa and aligning with its strategic ambition to enhance regional logistics infrastructure.
The redevelopment aims to transform the site into a state-of-the-art facility capable of handling general cargo, containers, and roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipments. With a 16-metre draft, it will be the only terminal at the Port of Luanda able to accommodate Super Post-Panamax vessels with a capacity of up to 14,000 TEUs.
Angola, home to 34.5 million people and boasting a GDP of USD 74 billion, ranks as the sixth-largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa. To date, AD Ports Group has allocated over USD 800 million towards infrastructure developments across Angola, Egypt, the Republic of Congo, and Tanzania.
