AD Ports Group, a key enabler of international trade, logistics, and industry, has appointed Mar Construction Civil & Obras Publicas – LDA to undertake the design and construction of the topside and marine infrastructure at Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal, situated in Angola’s largest port.
Dar Al Handasah Consultants Shair & Partners has also been commissioned to deliver project management and construction supervision services for the development.
This modernisation initiative will see the terminal undergo significant enhancements, transforming it into a contemporary multi-purpose facility for general cargo, containers, and roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) operations. With a planned depth of 16 metres, it will become the only terminal in Luanda Port capable of handling Super Post-Panamax vessels carrying up to 14,000 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units).
Covering an area of 192,000 sqm, the terminal will be tailored for high-capacity container operations and integrated with advanced technologies and IT systems. The works are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
The Port of Luanda handles around 76% of Angola’s container and general cargo traffic, serving as a key maritime hub for landlocked nations such as Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Under a 20-year concession agreement signed in April 2024, AD Ports Group will invest USD 250 million through 2026 to upgrade the terminal. The Group began managing the site in January 2025, marking a milestone in its strategic expansion into sub-Saharan Africa.
Regional CEO Mohamed Eidha Tannaf AlMenhali noted the initiative will significantly boost terminal performance, demonstrating the Group’s long-term commitment to advancing trade and infrastructure across Africa.
