As part of its ongoing drive to improve quality of life across the emirate, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has initiated a study to assess the redevelopment of Mussafah, aiming to strengthen its position as a leading industrial and investment destination.
The first phase of the study, to be conducted in coordination with relevant stakeholders, will concentrate on revitalising Mussafah’s waterfront. Plans include the creation of expansive green spaces that enhance public amenities while preserving the area’s distinctive character, according to a statement from DMT.
The project is intended to address future requirements, upgrade core services, attract additional investment and create a more integrated environment that supports both work and living. Planned enhancements also include road upgrades along key corridors such as the Mussafah–Al Ain Road (E30) and Street 8, aimed at improving traffic efficiency and easing the movement of commercial goods.
Alongside the redevelopment plans, DMT has stepped up inspection activities and awareness initiatives targeting residents and business owners to ensure adherence to municipal regulations. These efforts also seek to limit irregular practices and tackle visual and environmental issues within the area.
Eng. Eisa Mubarak Almazrouei, Acting Director General of Infrastructure Development at DMT, said Mussafah plays a critical role as a major industrial and commercial hub in Abu Dhabi. He noted that the study, carried out with strategic partners, will explore innovative approaches in infrastructure, transport and smart urban planning to enhance the district’s competitiveness and position it as a global model for economic zones.
He added that the measures are designed to improve public health, safety and urban cleanliness, while supporting ongoing initiatives to address residential overcrowding. Further details on the project and its implementation phases will be announced by DMT at a later stage.
