Abu Dhabi has opened two new marine bridges linking Al Reem Island to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway (E-12), delivering a significant boost to the emirate’s transport infrastructure and easing connectivity across key districts.
The AED 450 million ($122 million) development is set to reduce peak travel times by as much as 60 per cent, bringing average commute durations down to nearly 15 minutes while improving overall traffic flow.
Built to support heavy traffic movement, the bridges have a combined capacity of around 7,200 vehicles per hour, strengthening access between Al Reem Island and nearby areas while helping to ease congestion.
The project is part of wider efforts by authorities to enhance urban mobility, upgrade road networks, and improve transport efficiency in line with long-term development goals.
Officials noted that the bridges align with Abu Dhabi’s broader vision of creating a more integrated and sustainable transport system, connecting residential, commercial, and economic zones more effectively.
The new infrastructure is also expected to accommodate future population growth and urban expansion, particularly in high-density locations such as Al Reem Island, while improving access to major highways.
