Abu Dhabi has initiated the pilot phase of the Automated Rapid Transit (ART) project on Abu Dhabi Island. This move aligns with the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) under the Department of Municipalities and Transport’s broader strategy to establish a comprehensive and intelligent public transportation system that promotes local development.
The ITC has emphasized that ART is designed to improve transportation choices for both residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi. They have dedicated significant efforts to constructing a highly efficient and fully integrated infrastructure that upholds the highest standards of safety, comfort, and quality for passengers.
ART Pilot Phase Paves the Way for Transport Tech Advancement
The pilot phase encompasses 25 stations along approximately 27 km of routes, heralding a new and distinctive era of technological advancement in the transportation sector, according to Gulf Business.
During its initial phase, the service operates from Friday to Sunday, covering the route from Al Reem Mall to Marina Mall, traversing Zayed the First Street and Corniche Street on Abu Dhabi Island.
The rail-less train project is an integral part of the city’s smart mobility strategy, which aims to establish an efficient and sustainable transport sector through innovative technologies while supporting the shift to eco-friendly transportation methods.
This strategy also aligns with the UAE’s sustainable development goals, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions in line with the country’s commitment to environmental preservation.
Furthermore, this project serves to diversify transportation options, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life and bolstering Abu Dhabi’s standing as a premier destination for living, working, and visiting.
