On the fourth day of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) and the Naval Defence Exhibition (NAVDEX) 2023, Tawazun Council signed 10 deals worth AED 2.7B with both local and international companies on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.
This brings the total value of deals signed by Tawazun Council for the Ministry of Defence and Abu Dhabi Police to AED 21.14B for a total of 44 deals. The announcement was made during a press conference held by Tawazun Council’s official spokespersons, Majed Ahmed Al Jaberi, Zayed Saeed Al Meraikhi, and Saeed Al Mansoori, CEO of Capital Events, a subsidiary of ADNEC Group.
Among the 10 contracts, six were signed with local companies for a total of AED 1.2B, while four were signed with international companies for a total of AED 1.5B. The largest local contract, worth AED 902M, was awarded to Norinco through International Golden Group for the procurement of the AR3 multiple launcher rocket system and in-country services. Other contracts were signed with Edge Group’s subsidiary Earth, Tamalex International, and International Golden Group, according to WAM.
Announcing the fourth day’s deals with international companies, Al Jaberi said, “The Council seeks to maximise value for money through innovative budgeting and acquisition systems, sustain technology and innovation to support national industry needs, secure defence and security industry through robust regulations and accelerate ecosystem growth by nationalising key acquisitions and capabilities, driving local content and creating in-country value.”
During the recent announcement, it was revealed that international contracts were signed, including an AED 1.26B contract with France’s MBDA for the procurement of MICA missiles and a contract worth AED 36M with Italy’s Leonardo for the procurement of spare parts for C4I systems. A contract worth AED 79M with US-based Harris International was also signed to provide technical support and training services on C4I systems, as well as a contract worth AED 165M with US-based Kaman Precision Products for the procurement of ammunition fuzes. Additionally, Saeed Al Mansoori, CEO of Capital Events, an ADNEC Group subsidiary, announced the conclusion of the IDEX Next Gen Award, which had the participation of 34 startups from 52 countries.
Al Mansoori gave credit to the Ministry of Defence and Tawazun Council for their unwavering support in making IDEX and NAVDEX 2023 a success.
