Construction of NEOM’s green hydrogen project has surpassed 80% completion as of the first quarter of 2025, according to NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC).
Progress continues across the project’s key components, including the hydrogen production facility, wind farm, solar installations, and transmission network.
“The green hydrogen project is moving ahead at pace, with critical equipment now delivered and installed, such as wind turbines, hydrogen storage tanks, electrolysers, the cold box, and pipe racks,” NGHC confirmed in a statement.
NGHC, a joint venture equally owned by ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM, is building a large-scale facility in Oxagon that will combine up to 4 gigawatts of solar and wind power. The plant is designed to produce as much as 600 tonnes of carbon-free hydrogen daily, converted into green ammonia, by the end of 2026.
All green ammonia output from the facility will be supplied to Air Products under a 30-year off-take agreement.
In May 2023, NGHC secured financial close on the $8.4 billion project, backed by a $6.1 billion non-recourse loan provided by 23 domestic, regional, and global banks and financial institutions.
