The UAE has reinforced its position as a global leader in the clean energy transition in 2025, advancing a diverse range of solar projects that are being financed and executed by national companies across several continents.
The nation’s solar ventures now span Asia, Africa, and Europe, further solidifying its commitment to cutting carbon emissions and addressing the challenges of climate change.
Earlier this year, the UAE entered into a tripartite partnership with Italy and Albania to roll out large-scale renewable energy projects in Albania. The collaboration will focus on solar photovoltaic, wind, and hybrid solutions, with a portion of the power generated earmarked for export to Italy.
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) has accelerated its global growth in 2025, marking key achievements across multiple markets.
In Spain, Masdar acquired a 49.99% stake in four Endesa solar plants with a combined capacity of 446 MW, bolstering its footprint in the Iberian Peninsula.
In Indonesia, Masdar partnered with PT PLN (Persero), the state-owned electricity provider, signing two agreements to advance floating solar initiatives in the country’s fast-growing energy sector.
The companies formalised their cooperation with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a floating solar facility at the Jatigede Dam reservoir in West Java. Masdar, which secured the lowest tariff under the Hijaunesia 2023 bidding programme, plans to commence construction this year, with completion expected by 2027.
