Abu Dhabi has once again been named the safest city in the world, maintaining its top position for the ninth consecutive year since 2017, according to global data platform Numbeo.
The ranking reflects the emirate’s advanced security strategies, modern infrastructure, and ongoing commitment to public safety. In the same report, Ajman claimed second place globally, while Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah also secured spots in the world’s top 10 safest cities.
World-Leading Nighttime Safety
Abu Dhabi also ranked as the safest city to walk alone at night, scoring 87 out of 100 in a UK-based Travelbag study. With well-lit streets, low crime rates, and robust security measures, the city offers residents and visitors a safe environment for nighttime exploration, including landmarks like the illuminated Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
Global Comparisons
Taipei, Taiwan, ranked second for nighttime safety with a score of 85, while New York topped the list for most scenic city at night, boasting more than 40,800 Instagram hashtags and 2,302 late-night venues. Muscat, Oman, was ranked best city for stargazing, with low light pollution offering pristine desert skies.
Public Confidence and Happiness
The study revealed that 93.6% of Abu Dhabi residents feel safe walking alone at night. The emirate’s Happiness Indicator also rose to 7.74 out of 10, up from 7.63, underscoring the strong connection between public safety and quality of life.
The UAE’s strong showing across multiple cities reinforces its position as one of the world’s most secure destinations for residents, businesses, and tourists alike.
