H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, presided over the Council’s 88th meeting, which was held virtually and attended by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Council.
Also present were Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Council, along with board members Marwan bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality; Abdulla bin Kalban, Managing Director of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA); Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC); Juan-Pablo Freile, General Manager of Dubai Petroleum and Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP); and Muna Alosaimi, CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The Council discussed key strategic initiatives that underscore Dubai’s forward-looking commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Progress updates were shared on sustainable biofuel and green hydrogen developments, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a leading global centre for clean energy.
The meeting also explored the World Green Economy Organisation’s efforts in bolstering international cooperation and enhancing local capabilities to lead the shift towards a sustainable economy.
Additionally, members assessed outcomes of the Demand Side Management Strategy 2050, which targets a 30% reduction in electricity, water, and fuel usage by 2030, increasing to 50% by 2050 compared to current consumption patterns.
“We remain committed to pioneering renewable energy projects that align with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position Dubai as a global leader in energy efficiency. Guided by the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, we aim for 100% clean energy by mid-century,” stated Al Tayer, noting the significance of biofuel and green hydrogen in diversifying energy sources and promoting sustainable growth.
