Yango Group has initiated a trial for autonomous robot food deliveries within Expo City Dubai. This innovative service is set to boost convenience for workers, residents, and visitors in Expo City, while also contributing to Dubai’s wider vision of becoming a smart city.
The pilot programme, lasting four months, will see the autonomous robots delivering food orders from selected cafés and restaurants to Expo City’s central office at Al Wasl Plaza, seamlessly integrating into the city’s intelligent infrastructure.
Operating autonomously, the delivery robots use artificial intelligence to plan routes, avoid obstacles, and give priority to pedestrians, ensuring safe and efficient navigation through urban spaces.
Nikita Gavrilov, Regional Head of Yango Tech Autonomy, commented: “We’re excited to partner with Expo City Dubai for this pilot. The site’s clearly defined zones create an ideal controlled environment to test autonomous technology safely and effectively.
“In line with Expo City’s goal to serve as a model for future urban living, our robots merge advanced AI with sustainable last-mile logistics to improve everyday life in smart communities.”
Equipped with high-definition mapping and multiple sensors, the robots can navigate in real time, steering clear of people, vehicles, and other obstacles—even during poor lighting or challenging weather conditions.
Electric-powered, the robots operate without emissions and are noticeably quieter than conventional delivery vehicles.
Dr Amy Hochadel, Vice President – Urban Lab, Expo City Dubai, said: “Expo City serves as a launchpad for bold technological innovation. Our Urban Lab offers a unique, city-wide platform to test and scale future-ready, human-centric solutions.
“Through rigorous testing, Urban Lab enables impactful technologies to reach market readiness. Yango Group’s robot trial is one of many initiatives shaping tomorrow’s urban standards.”
Currently, deliveries are limited to Al Wasl 3 via the Expo City Eats app. Following a successful pilot, a wider rollout is planned.
