Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has expanded its network to include over 740 electric vehicle (EV) Green Charger points across Dubai, reflecting the Emirate’s consistent rise in EV adoption, which surpassed 34,970 vehicles as of October 2024.
Customers can easily find these charging stations through DEWA’s website, smart app, and 14 additional digital platforms.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, stated: “We align with the vision of our wise leadership to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city globally by leveraging the transformative technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
“The EV Green Charger initiative, introduced by DEWA in 2014, seeks to deliver cutting-edge infrastructure for EV charging stations, facilitating the increasing adoption of electric vehicles in Dubai. The UAE’s goal is to ensure that 50 per cent of cars on its roads are electric by 2050.”
“Recently, we launched an all-encompassing Regulatory and Licensing Framework to guide the development and operation of EV charging infrastructure in Dubai. This marks a key milestone in advancing green mobility and contributing to Dubai’s ambition of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
DEWA has granted the first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licences for EV charging stations in Dubai to Tesla and UAEV. This move aligns with DEWA’s strategy to foster private sector involvement in promoting sustainability, cutting emissions within the transport sector, and encouraging investment in green mobility infrastructure across Dubai.
The EV Green Charger network features ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. Between 2014 and the end of September 2024, 16,828 customers have utilised the initiative’s services, with DEWA supplying approximately 31,674 megawatt hours of electricity to electric vehicles.
