The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract to improve access to the Mall of the Emirates and enhance the surrounding roads, according to a statement from the Dubai Media Office on Sunday.
The AED 165M project is part of Dubai’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its road infrastructure.
The scheme involves constructing a 300-metre bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road, expanding the ramp at the Umm Suqeim intersection, and upgrading 2.5 km of surface roads around the mall.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stated, “The project involves the construction of a 300-metre bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road with a single lane, providing direct access to the Mall of the Emirates parking for drivers coming from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali.
“Additional work includes upgrading 2.5 km of surface roads around the mall, developing three signalised intersections, modifying the bus station at the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station, changing the street next to the Kempinski Hotel from one-way to two-way, and improving pedestrian and cycling paths. These upgrades will also involve paving, lighting, traffic signals, rainwater drainage systems, and landscaping,” he added.
The project will also modify the bus station at the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station and convert a nearby street from one-way to two-way traffic.
The project will include upgrades to pedestrian and cycling paths, as well as improvements to paving, lighting, traffic signals, and drainage systems.
The Mall of the Emirates, which opened in 2005, draws over 40 million visitors annually. It features 454 stores, 96 restaurants and cafes, and entertainment options including Ski Dubai.
