The immensely popular ‘rain street’ at Zawaya Walk is set to become even more enticing for visitors as its creators plan to introduce cooler water for the artificial downpours. The innovative concept, which has taken the city by storm, has drawn crowds seeking respite from the scorching summer heat.
Obaid Al Tunaiji, the mastermind behind the attraction, revealed that the team has noticed the water temperature being slightly warmer than desired and is committed to enhancing the overall experience. “We will implement special devices to make the rains cooler,” he said, adding that the water used is “clean and sterilized.”
Zawaya Walk, with its palm-lined walkway, artificial lake, and an array of shops and restaurants, has transformed into a beloved community hub. The hourly rain showers, accompanied by thunder-like sound effects, have created a unique and refreshing oasis amidst the desert climate.
The idea for the rain showers originated from a desire to boost visitor numbers during the summer months. “We wanted to create a space where people could enjoy the outdoors even in the scorching heat,” explained Al Tunaiji. While misting fans were initially considered, the team opted for artificial rain as a more effective cooling solution.
The project was executed entirely in-house by the team’s engineers, ensuring that the rain showers perfectly complement the ambiance of Zawaya Walk. With temperatures soaring across the UAE, the ‘rain street’ has become a sought-after escape for those seeking relief from the heat.
