Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of the world’s largest international airline, has confirmed an order for an additional five Boeing 777 freighters, scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2026.
The order, valued at $1B, will increase the airline’s total wide-body aircraft orders to 315.
Emirates SkyCargo has shown exceptional performance in the first quarter of its 2024-25 financial year, achieving consistently high load factors and tonnages that surpass figures from 2019.
Upon entering into service, the new aircraft will boost main deck cargo capacity by 30%, enabling the airline to expand its presence in key markets and better meet global customer demands.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, stated, “Demand for our top-tier products and services is growing rapidly, driven further by Dubai’s Economic Agenda aimed at doubling foreign trade and enhancing the city’s status as a global trade hub. This investment in additional Boeing 777 capacity allows us to meet customer demand and advances our long-term strategic growth plan.”
“Our upcoming strategy phase will involve a comprehensive evaluation of our future freighter fleet, considering all aircraft options to ensure we are well-prepared to respond to evolving market demands and reaffirm our confidence in the role of airfreight, particularly Emirates SkyCargo, in global trade.”
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commented, “We are proud that Emirates SkyCargo, known for its operational excellence and innovation, has once again chosen the Boeing 777 Freighter to expand its global network. We deeply appreciate Emirates’ trust in the Boeing widebody family and are committed to supporting their long-term strategic growth.”
With the phased delivery of new aircraft, Emirates SkyCargo will retire older freighters, demonstrating the airline’s dedication to maintaining one of the youngest and most efficient fleets.
In addition to the ten Boeing 777Fs on order, Emirates’ cargo capabilities will be enhanced by the conversion of ten 777-300ERs into freighters, bringing the total freighter fleet to 17 aircraft by the end of 2025.
Utilizing the Emirates passenger fleet, the cargo division will continue to facilitate swift, reliable, and efficient global cargo movements, providing customers with enhanced flexibility through a fleet mix consisting of 777s, 777-Fs, 747Fs, A350s, and A380s.
