Dubai’s RTA has revealed a fresh blueprint for the land transport and logistics sector, aiming to double its economic contributions to AED16.8B ($4.6B) while reducing carbon emissions by 30%.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), unveiled the specifics of the Dubai Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030.
This strategy, alongside its roadmap and associated projects, has received approval from the Dubai Executive Council, chaired by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.
Dubai’s Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030 aims to double the direct contribution of the land transport and logistics sector to the emirate’s economy, increase technology adoption in infrastructure by 75%, reduce carbon emissions by 30%, and enhance operational efficiency by 10%.
Al Tayer stated, “The new strategy is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.” He emphasised its alignment with Dubai’s economic objectives and its focus on regulating and enhancing the commercial transport sector.
He further explained that the strategy was crafted in collaboration with strategic partners and aims to improve cost efficiency, adopt modern technology, enhance safety, and support SMEs in the business market.
The commercial transport sector in Dubai has witnessed significant economic expansion, driven largely by the rapid growth of e-commerce and the emirate’s central role as a logistics hub. Currently, there are 351,000 registered commercial vehicles and 9,699 companies in the sector.
Over the past five years, the sector has experienced a compound annual growth rate of 34%, with its direct contribution to Dubai’s economy reaching AED8.5B ($2.3B) in 2021, accounting for 3% of the emirate’s GDP.
The strategy includes 17 projects aimed at supporting sector growth, enhancing competitiveness, and leveraging digital platforms. These projects range from developing digital platforms to updating heavy and light truck fleets.
Additionally, the strategy aligns with six existing specialised strategies, ensuring comprehensive coordination across various aspects of Dubai’s transport and logistics sector.
