DP World has teamed up with Einride, a freight mobility company, to electrify container movements within Jebel Ali Port, ranked the world’s 10th busiest port by Alphaliner. This partnership will introduce the largest deployment of electric, autonomous freight mobility in the Middle East, operating continuously to reshape regional transportation.
Expected to begin by the end of 2024, the initiative will rapidly scale up to handle approximately 1,600 container movements daily. Managed through Einride Saga, an advanced digital operating system, a fleet of 100 connected electric trucks will power this project, marking a significant advancement in regional transport standards.
Once fully operational, the collaboration aims to deliver substantial environmental benefits, including an annual reduction of up to 14,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) and 158 tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOx).
DP World and Einride share a commitment to sustainable transportation practices. Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and MD of DP World GCC, highlighted their dedication to advancing smarter, faster, and more sustainable trade practices. Robert Falck, CEO and founder of Einride, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the collaboration’s potential in redefining freight mobility in the Middle East.
This partnership with DP World is a vital aspect of Einride’s broader initiative with the UAE government to expedite the region’s transition towards sustainable shipping.
In other developments, DP World has concluded the Mina Al Hamriya expansion project, a significant enhancement in the port’s operational capacity. The expansion includes the construction of an additional 1,150 metres of quay wall, significantly increasing berthing capacity for various vessels, from traditional dhows to modern breakbulk carriers and Ro-Ro ships.
