It was announced on Wednesday that failure to wear a face mask during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Dubai will result in a fine of AED3,000 ($817).
Comprehensive precautionary measures will be “stringently enforced” at all events and activities, read a statement carried on the Twitter feed of Dubai Media Office.
The guidelines that are being enforced to safeguard the health and wellbeing of citizens, residents and visitors for New Year’s Eve celebrations include wearing face masks and observing social distancing, it added.
Dubai is set to celebrate New Year’s Eve with 36 fireworks displays at 29 locations alongside “world-class entertainment” as part of the Dubai Destinations initiative which was launched earlier this month.
The announcement follows news that the UAE reported its highest number of daily coronavirus cases for six months on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) reported 2,234 infections, the highest mark since June 26 when the country saw 2,286 cases.
The latest figures come less than a month after the UAE announced it had discovered its first case of the highly transmittable Omicrom variant of the virus
The Dubai Media Council has brought together government entities, industry stakeholders and the creative community to launch Dubai Destinations, a new initiative to support the emirate’s tourism recovery.
The initiative, which complements broader efforts to enhance the UAE’s profile as a leading global destination, invites people to discover Dubai through its many experiences ranging across adventure, entertainment, food, art, culture, sports and fitness.
Dubai Destinations brings together a wide range of public and private sector stakeholders including the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Municipality, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Dubai Holding, Dubai Sports Council and the Government of Dubai Media Office.
It will also bring together some of the emirate’s most accomplished creatives including influencers, photographers, digital media content creators, animators and videographers to create compelling new content about Dubai’s destination experiences across traditional and new media.
The collaborative campaign’s ultimate objective is to build on Dubai’s rising popularity as a destination and will also feature guides designed to help people explore top-rated experiences, campsites, outdoor activities and homegrown restaurants.
The initiative comes at a time when Dubai is building its reputation as one of the world’s safest and most open destinations.
