The Department of Health (DoH) in Abu Dhabi has taken decisive action against healthcare facilities in the emirate found to be breaching healthcare laws and regulations.
The DoH’s strong measures aim to safeguard community well-being and guarantee the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
One healthcare center faces a one million dirhams fine and is under investigation as multiple doctors are being scrutinized, stated the authority. The center is banned from providing dental services across all branches due to suspected fraudulent activities targeting public funds.
8 Abu Dhabi Healthcare Facilities Closed for Infectious Disease Law Violations
Eight healthcare facilities, including an occupational medicine center, a laboratory, and a medical center, have been closed following thorough inspections. They were found violating Federal Law No. 14 of 2014 related to the prevention of infectious diseases.
Additionally, these facilities failed to comply with regulations for electronic reporting, neglected Department standards for public health statistics reporting, and four home care facilities were closed for non-compliance with DoH standards and regulations governing home care services.
These infractions included failure to secure proper patient consent, inadequate explanations of treatment procedures and risks, and the absence of DoH approval for secondment contracts between facilities.
The DoH emphasized serious concerns about the lack of essential medicines, medical supplies, and devices for emergencies at these facilities. Safety procedures, infection prevention measures, maintenance of supplies, handling and disposal of medical waste, and storage of patient medical records were also noted as inadequate.
A dental clinic was closed due to multiple violations, including employing unlicensed healthcare professionals, non-compliance with sterilization protocols, and the use of non-sterile medical supplies. The clinic was deficient in recording comprehensive medical histories, procedures, examinations, interventions, or treatments in patient files, and it was operating in a field different from its licensing.
The DoH has urged all healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi to adhere to its policies and regulations, stressing the importance of maintaining an efficient healthcare system, ensuring community health and safety, and providing healthcare services in line with international best practices.
The Department remains committed to enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare services by actively monitoring violations and assisting non-compliant facilities in rectifying their shortcomings to ensure the health and safety of all community members, according to Arabian Business.
