Kuwait has initiated the issuance of part-time work permits for expatriates within the country. The Public Authority for Manpower, in a social media announcement, detailed the fees and application procedure for engaging in part-time employment.
Initially introduced at the end of December, these part-time work permits aim to enable employers to make use of the expatriate workforce already present in the country, reducing the necessity for additional international recruitment.

The Public Authority for Manpower will facilitate the issuance of these permits through the Sahel application.
The social media statement emphasized that the Sahel platform envisions enhancing Kuwait’s labour market, encouraging business owners to invest in the existing workforce, and tackling demographic imbalances through the introduction of a part-time work permit.
The Manpower Authority disclosed the fees for the new work permit structure:
- KD5 ($12.8) for one month
- KD10 ($25.9) for three months
- KD20 ($51.8) for six months
- KD30 ($77.7) for one year
Kuwaiti citizens are exempt from these fees and can engage in part-time work without limitations.
As previously mentioned, expatriates applying for a part-time work permit are restricted to a maximum of four hours per day, with an exception and no time limit for employees in the contracting sector.
Approval from the individual’s primary employer is also a prerequisite.
With over two-thirds of the country’s population being expatriates, these new regulations aim to address demographic imbalances within Kuwait, according to Arabian Business.
