DP World has revealed intentions to move its global headquarters to Expo City Dubai, marking a significant point in the company’s 50-year journey and its ongoing expansion of global supply chain solutions.
The decision to relocate to Expo City was a pivotal step in the company’s evolution from a regional port operator in 1972 to a truly international provider of supply chain solutions, revolutionizing global trade practices. Since its establishment under the current name in September 2005, DP World has been situated in Jebel Ali, at the core of its port and free zone operations.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, commented on the plan, stating, “DP World’s move to Expo City Dubai is not an isolated initiative; it is part of our broader transformation to emerge as the foremost global provider of end-to-end supply chain solutions. Shifting to Expo City places us at the nexus of Dubai’s future, symbolizing our dedication to innovation, sustainability, and facilitating trade for our worldwide clientele.
“We are optimistic that our new, cutting-edge headquarters will not only support our continual expansion but will also stand as a testament to our commitment to excellence and environmental responsibility. Throughout our operations, we are steadfast in delivering sustainable solutions for customers and partners, and this forward-thinking approach underpins the vision for our new corporate headquarters.”
Expo City Dubai Welcomes DP World’s Innovative Head Office: A Hub for Sustainable Growth and Collaborative Engagement
Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority, remarked, “As a focal point in the 2040 Dubai Urban Masterplan, Expo City Dubai is committed to fostering an environment for sustainable growth across Dubai’s key sectors, as well as addressing significant challenges of our era. Building on the legacy of Expo 2020, we are pleased to welcome DP World back to our site as we collaborate towards our shared vision of a better, more sustainable future for all.”
DP World’s new Head Office, spanning nine stories and encompassing 37,300 square metres, will house around 800 dedicated staff and serve as a platform for direct engagement with DP World’s portfolio, covering ports and terminals, marine services, logistics, and technology. The initial two floors are designed for interactions with external stakeholders and visitors, offering spaces for informal meetings and dining, as well as top-tier VIP meeting rooms and facilities.
Juan Carlos Sahdala, DP World’s Group Chief Planning and Project Officer, remarked, “The process of designing DP World’s new head office at Expo City Dubai has been an exhilarating journey. Our aim has been to create a space that seamlessly combines form, function, and sustainability, encapsulating the forward-thinking essence of Dubai’s development.”
DP World is committed to reducing its environmental impact, and the head office will integrate energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy sources, and eco-friendly building materials. The project will adopt a sustainable approach to the building’s construction, setting a new standard for the region. The initiative involves the use of electric golf carts as a mode of transportation, facilitating convenient travel across different areas of the project site for both employees and visitors.
DP World’s Visionary Head Office: A Smart, Sustainable Hub Redefining Global Trade
Dr Amr El Sabban, Group Senior Vice President, Planning and Project Management at DP World, stated, “A key aspect of the building is its status as a state-of-the-art smart building. This entails the integration of cutting-edge technological solutions throughout the facility to improve efficiency, productivity, and connectivity among employees across various departments and locations within the group. The smart building concept encompasses a range of advanced systems and solutions, including energy-efficient solutions, building management systems, intelligent elevator systems, and smart audio-video monitoring.”
The design is incorporated with DP World’s iconic Flow Pavilion and water fountain, which captured audiences’ attention during Expo 2020. The pavilion hosted nearly 3,000 government officials, 2,500 thought leaders, 10,000 students, and over 1.2 million visitors throughout the six-month Expo 2020 Dubai, according to WAM.
DEC Dynamic Design Studio, based in Dubai, was tasked with creating a facility that mirrors DP World’s vision for the future of global trade, merging functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics.
The building also features an automated parking area, showcasing DP World’s dedication to technological advancement in all aspects of its work. This innovative parking solution not only maximizes plot use but also aligns with DP World’s environmental objectives, reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional parking facilities. The project includes surface car parking facilities near the entrances specifically designated for EV charging, promoting convenience and encouraging the use of sustainable and efficient modes of transportation.
