ADNOC Gas plc revealed a multi-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply deal, ranging in worth from $500M to $700M, with JERA Global Markets, a trading subsidiary of the prominent Japanese energy company, JERA Co. Inc.
This contract strengthens the enduring bond between the United Arab Emirates and Japan, further solidifying ADNOC Gas’ status as a preferred global LNG export partner.
For over four decades, ADNOC’s LNG production facilities situated on Das Island have been supplying LNG to the Tokyo Electric Power Company, which is one of the parent companies of JERA Co., Inc.
The renewed supply agreement with JERA Global Markets strengthens and deepens the existing partnership, according to Arabian Business.
Strengthening UAE-Japan Energy Partnership
The UAE considers Japan a crucial energy partner, and this agreement strengthens ADNOC’s track record of building strategic relationships with Japanese energy firms, according to the UAE company.
Ahmed Alebri, Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas, stated that the most recent LNG supply agreement is a notable achievement in ADNOC Gas’ enduring strategic partnership with JERA Co., Inc.
“It demonstrates our continuous and shared commitment to advancing sustainability in the energy sector and supporting a reliable and cleaner energy future for Japan and beyond,” he said.
Alebri mentioned that natural gas remains pivotal as a transitional fuel, offering lower carbon emissions when compared to other fossil fuels. Additionally, it serves as a vital resource in industrial value chains.
Kazunori Kasai, Chief Optimisation Officer of JERA Co., Inc. and Chairman of JERA Global Markets, said, “We are pleased to continue our LNG partnership with ADNOC Gas as the JERA Group continuously looks towards strengthening our global LNG portfolio with stable, flexible and competitive LNG supply, which is essential in the energy transition.”
Following a series of significant international LNG sales agreements, ADNOC Gas has recently engaged in deals with companies such as PetroChina International Co., Ltd. (PCI), Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX).
The cumulative worth of LNG supply agreements signed by ADNOC Gas since its listing in March this year ranges from $9.4B (AED 34.5B) to $12B (AED 44B).
