In a historic win, the UAE men’s national ice hockey team has been crowned champions of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II – Group B, which was held in Turkey. The UAE team won the fifth and final round by defeating Mexico with a score of 9-4.
After the announcement of their victory, the players erupted in cheers and sang the national anthem in the stadium. Moreover, Mohamed Al-Asri Al-Dhaheri, a player on the national team, was awarded the title of best player, according to WAM.
The UAE team achieved a significant feat by winning the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division III – Group A held in Luxembourg, last year. The team secured four victories in the championship by defeating Türkiye, Belgium, New Zealand, and Bulgaria.
Hamel Ahmed Al Qubaisi, who is the Vice President of the UAE Winter Sports Federation and Head of the Mission, credited the wise leadership for the achievement and commended the remarkable performance of the national team players in all matches.
