The Spring Meetings of 2023, themed “The Way Forward: Building Resilience and Reshaping Development,” will take place in Washington, D.C. from April 10th to 16th. The World Bank and IMF leaders will tackle complex global economic challenges.
To commence the meetings, World Bank Group President David Malpass and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva will engage in a discussion about the intricate challenges facing the global economy. The World Bank highlights that despite being three years since the pandemic began, the global economy still faces significant uncertainties and risks.
The challenges of stubborn inflation, slow growth, and the cost-of-living crisis affect everyone, but they hit the poor and vulnerable hardest. Developing countries are struggling under record high debt, while the effects of climate change threaten lives and livelihoods worldwide.
Furthermore, geopolitical fragmentation and the crisis in Ukraine have made international coordination even more difficult. In light of these challenges, the discussion during the 2023 Spring Meetings will focus on ways to finance global public goods and tackle these issues collectively, according to WAM.
The meeting will bring together officials from member states of the IMF and WBG, as well as representatives from international and regional organizations, central bank governors, civil society organizations, private sector officials, financial institutions, banks, parliamentarians, academics, and shura councils.
