His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said that the preservation of our cultural and historical heritage is an ongoing responsibility that demonstrates our dedication to exhibiting the diverse values of our national identity.
During the opening of the renovated Al Shindagha Museum in Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and showcasing Dubai’s inspiring story to the world. He directed the Al Shindagha area to be transformed into an open-air museum covering 310,000 square metres that will document the city’s exceptional achievements and diverse cultural dimensions, according to WAM.
H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, also praised the museum’s contributions to preserving tangible and intangible heritage and its embodiment of Dubai’s ambitious spirit and success stories. She expressed appreciation for the valuable contributions made by researchers, historians, heritage experts, and collectors, as well as government entities and their teams who made the vision a reality.
During his visit to the Al Shindagha Museum, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was given a tour of the different sections, including the Al Maktoum Residence. This section archives the experience of the late H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and his significant role in the development of Dubai. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was also briefed on the collections on display in this section, which showcase the accomplishments and legacy of the Dubai ruling family and the historic events that have taken place in Dubai throughout the years. The Al Maktoum Residence section also features exhibits on the main decisions and historical projects of Dubai rulers in the 19th century.
The Al Shindagha Museum, located in the Dubai Creek area, is the largest heritage museum in the UAE, with 22 pavilions featuring 80 historic houses that illustrate the development of Dubai and the UAE. Its exhibits date back to the 1800s, offering visitors a glimpse into the traditional Emirati lifestyle and rich cultural heritage of the region.
The museum’s goal is to attract over 1 million visitors by 2025 and provides space for investment and development projects related to heritage and culture, including visitor services and amenities. Each pavilion has a unique theme and displays that showcase Dubai and the UAE’s history and culture, such as Traditional Crafts, Poetry House, Traditional Food House, People and Faith, and more.
