As part of a 18 sq.km development north of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is considering building a 2-km tall tower.
According to a MEED report, contractors who have priced mega-tall towers in the region say the tower could cost $5 billion to construct. If it goes ahead, the tower will dwarf the world’s tallest building, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which is 828 meters.
According to MEED, a design competition has been started, and foreign companies, including Killa Design from Dubai, have been invited to take part.
The construction location is situated west of the current King Khalid International Airport, which is expected to be incorporated into the recently announced King Salman International Airport project in the country.
