Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Emirates Tourism Council, took part in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) Madrid 2026, held at IFEMA in Spain from 21 to 25 January.
The event aims to strengthen international tourism partnerships across key regional and global markets, reinforce the UAE’s tourism identity and offerings on the world stage, facilitate the exchange of expertise in sustainable tourism policies, and support the development of competitive tourist destinations.
Al Marri stated that the UAE and the Kingdom of Spain share strong and strategic economic ties, reflecting a mutual vision to expand cooperation and deepen joint partnerships across economic, investment and tourism sectors.
He emphasised that tourism plays a central role in reinforcing bilateral relations, creating new avenues for joint investment, promoting cultural exchange and tourism expertise, and advancing economic cooperation while supporting sustainable growth in both countries.
He noted that the UAE’s tourism sector has become a cornerstone of sustainable development and a key contributor to the national economy’s gross domestic product.
Al Marri added that, under the guidance of its leadership, the UAE has firmly established itself as a leading global tourism destination, attracting millions of visitors each year and offering diverse, high-quality tourism experiences supported by advanced infrastructure, growth-oriented policies and innovative initiatives that have strengthened the sector’s regional and global competitiveness.
He further highlighted several notable tourism achievements in 2025 at both regional and international levels, including the election of Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais as Secretary-General of UN Tourism for the 2026–2029 term, Masfout being named the World’s Best Tourism Village for 2025, and Al Ain’s designation as Capital of Arab Tourism for 2026, following its recognition as Gulf Tourism Capital for 2025.
