Caparo Middle East, a unit of the UK-based Caparo founded in 1968 by India-born industrialist Swaraj Paul, has diversified into manufacturing through a joint venture with a Sharjah-based company after more than 15 years of distributing industrial and electrical products from its base in the Jebel Ali Free Zone.
During a visit to London, Anjli Paul, the Dubai-based family member in charge of Caparo Middle East, told Khaleej Times that the company’s manufacturing activities will help it boost revenues to $100 million in the next five years. All significant projects in the region, including the Burj Khalifa, Yas Island, Palm Jumeirah, and Burj Al Arab, have used the company’s goods.
“Caparo Middle East has recently ventured into manufacturing with a complete range of Rexton Brand PVC conduits and fittings under a joint venture initiative with Kingston Holdings, Sharjah, as part of our strategy for growth in this region and aligned with UAE’s vision for making the country a manufacturing hub,” Paul said.
“Our business goals call for sales revenue of more than $20 million in the fiscal year 2022, with a goal of $40 million in the fiscal year 2023,” says the company. With a well-established distribution network in the UAE and the GCC, as well as a capable technical and sales team, we will be able to achieve our objectives. In the next five years, we expect to achieve $100 million.” She claims that the simplicity of doing business in the UAE has enabled the company’s expansion.
“Going digital in the UAE has improved local manufacturing, imports, exports, licencing, and ensuring that our employees and business partners are safe and secure.” Clearances from the government go quickly, which encourages expansion and new investments,” she noted.
Caparo Middle East was founded in 2005 as a regional distributor of industrial and electrical equipment, with warehouses and offices spanning 70,000 square feet in the Jebel Ali Free Zone. The company has had steady expansion not only inside the GCC but also throughout the Mena region.
Cable management systems (steel rigid GI & flexible conduits and accessories sold under the Caparo brand); a wide range of cable connectors (brass glands, lugs, cleats, etc., sold under the Simplex Cables UK Ltd brand); and lithium batteries (used in lifting and cleaning equipment, UPS, telecom towers, and battery chargers, sold under the Caparo Power brand).
Caparo’s concept, according to Paul, is to build and develop sustainable enterprises that will allow the company, its employees, and associates to continue to expand. Caparo’s long-serving employees, loyal distributors and consumers, as well as an extensive network of trusted suppliers, are proof of this, she noted.
Caparo is a global company that designs, manufactures, markets, and distributes steel and speciality engineering products to customers in the United States, Europe, Africa, India, and the Middle East.
